The Power In You Project is an open ended strength-based program that aims to inspire and empower people affected by alcohol and other drugs to achieve lasting change in their lives.

The PIYP is a holistic support service for individuals who have or are at risk of challenges related with substance misuse and mental health. The program takes the positives from largely negative experiences and uses them to empower participants to take control of their lives and become contributing members of the community. The project does this through focusing on: Mind through education, Body through healthy living and Spirit through self-worth and connection.

2021 Pitch

Funds Raised: $28,600

Kane Nuttall founded the Geelong-based Power In You Project after his own 12-year battle with substance abuse. At TFN Rebuilding Regional Victoria he pitched for funding to hire two support workers to enable the program to provide seven-day support for participants.

The Impact

With the funds raised at TFN, PIYP has now been able to offer support 7 days a week, and have started to transform the shed into a holistic hub where they will facilitate yoga, art therapy and access to computers.

The most powerful impact to share though is Sam's story, "After being released from a short stint in prison, Sam realised all his friends were gone. He felt as though people were no longer interested in interacting with him. Kane visited Sam, who at the time had not used drugs for a week. Kane inspired Sam to attend The Power In You Project. Christmas Day 2021 marked a full year of abstaining from drugs – Sam even hosted Christmas Day 2021 at his house with 18 people in attendance. Sam is also now happily employed and connected to a community."
