Big Brothers Big Sisters (Tumut Program)

Mentoring for young people based on the simplicity and power of friendship.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia works with disadvantaged young people aged between 7-17, many of whom are experiencing marginalisation or social isolation. Through a long-term one-to-one community mentoring program, Big Brothers Big Sisters equips young people with the tools they need to build resilience and strengthen their emotional wellbeing.

2024 Pitch

Funds Raised: $20,040

Emma pitched for funding to provide the opportunity to sponsor the screening and training of 6 new mentors within the BBBS Tumut program. This then provides the opportunity to create new life changing matches within the Tumut community. 

The Impact…

The funding enabled the creation of six new mentoring matches, supporting six young people on their waiting list through a 12-month mentorship program.

Beneficiary story: “Amy*, 11, was referred to BBBS Tumut for additional support as she navigated anxiety, a difficult home life, and the transition to high school. Over 10 months with her mentor, Amy has grown more confident, tried new activities, and built a genuine, trusting relationship that brings her joy and stability. Her school friendships have also improved, and her mum has been blown away by how much happier her daughter is, and her willingness to get out and about more, knowing that she's in safe hands.”
