Fearless Women
Through gendered education, mentor and counselling programs Fearless Women fosters a sense of
belonging and empowerment in young women (including those who identify as female) aged 10 to 25.
Fearless Women operates in the ACT and focuses on early intervention and provides young women with support, role modelling, healthy skills development and community. It provides support, particularly the 'missing middle' who are those who haven’t reached a crisis point, but have complex, prolonged needs that require a level of expert care.
Funds Raised: $52,900
Fearless Women pitched to the Canberra community for support of their two-year Mentor Program. The program focuses on strength-based positive development, incorporating non- judgmental conversations between mentors and mentees and group activities. The funding will support screening and training new volunteer mentors so they are able to make more mentee- mentor matches.
The Impact
The funding enabled the delivery of the Fearless Women’s Mentoring program—part of their broader Empowerment program, supporting mentees and mentors in Canberra through skill-building activities, group events and mentor training. 29 people were supported through this funding, including mentors being trained and young women and girls paired and supported by a mentor.
Beneficiary story: Carly, once isolated and lacking confidence, was encouraged by her mentor to complete a school assignment she had planned to skip. After earning praise from her teacher and peers, she found the motivation to keep attending school and, by the end of the two-year program, she and her mother expressed heartfelt thanks for the transformation in her confidence and outlook.
