Women's Justice Network

Women's Justice Network

The Women’s Justice Network (WJN) currently supports women and girls in contact with the criminal law

system and girls at-risk in the community

Women’s Justice Network (WJN) runs a number of programs across NSW and newly into the ACT. Programs include mentoring programs and Healing from Within which utilises creativity, culture, connection and lived experience facilitators and guest speakers to foster an environment of trust, empowerment and safety. Young women learn to express themselves, set goals for the future, and engage in fun and impactful lessons, by women who have walked the path before them.

2024 Pitch

Funds Raised: $35,670

WJN pitched for funding to support their program expansion into the ACT. Particularly to be able to facilitate their Healing from Within (HFW) Group Program one day per week to women in the Alexander Maconochie Centre. Group sessions will involve and be led by women who have lived experience of custody, addiction, trauma and who have successfully turned their lives around, thus demonstrating that it is possible to change your situation and lead a happy, healthy life.

The Impact

TFN funding is set to deliver the new Healing from Within program at the Alexander Maconochie Centre; although delayed by correctional approval processes, the facilitator is now appointed and the program has recently commenced, ultimately supporting 20 women.

Beneficiary story: Emmy (name changed)  a woman with a history of domestic violence and drug addiction, engaged with WJN’s mentoring program while on remand. Despite setbacks after rehab, she maintained contact with her mentor and caseworker, who coordinated support from multiple services. Emmy credits the long-term relational support with helping her work towards stability and breaking cycles of re-offending.
