Coolamon Community

Coolamon Community

Supporting Aboriginal mums and babies with culturally safe essentials that open the door to early health engagement in remote communities.

Coolamon Community is a First Nations-led registered charity addressing the lack of safe baby essentials in remote NT and WA. Working through trusted Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, it provides the Coolamon – a culturally safe sleep space bundled with blankets, clothing, nappies, books and affirming resources – gifted by local health staff to ensure dignity and connection. Beyond practical help, each Coolamon builds trust in health services, strengthens early engagement and tells families they are seen and supported from a child’s first days.

2025 Pitch

Funds Raised: $77,700

Pitched for support to equip Aboriginal Health Services in remote communities such as Katherine and Karratha to provide Coolamons – a safe sleep space bundled with baby essentials, books and culturally affirming resources – to new mums at the point of care. Delivered through trusted ACCHOs, each Coolamon builds dignity and confidence, supports infant health and wellbeing, and strengthens early, ongoing engagement with healthcare. The investment will also help grow Coolamon Baby, the organisation’s social enterprise, to sustain this support long term for the families and communities it serves.
