Roots of Change is a storytelling platform dedicated to the Alumni community of The Funding Network Australia. Here we share their stories of ingenuity, courage, determination, spirit, growth and the impact these grassroots organisations have had, as a direct result of funds and support received from The Funding Network community.

Confit Pathways

Confit Pathways

Confit Pathways is a youth mentoring organisation where all the mentors have lived experience of the justice system.

Confit Pathway’s mission is to reduce youth recidivism and deliver diversion programs for youth at risk of incarceration by providing pathways to employment and education and providing a strong sense of community and support for young people to reintegrate back into society. Their programs are designed to help shape the minds of young people in custody (or those recently released from custody); who are often from marginalised backgrounds.

2024 Pitch

Funds Raised: $51,550

Joe pitched for funding to expand the geographical location of their programs by providing live online mentoring and fitness classes from their gym in Parramatta online to rural and regional communities in NSW and across Australia. The funding will assist with creating online hubs with some of their community partners who have capacity to facilitate the space and community connection for these classes to run.

The Impact…

The funding was able to support 136 young people in regional youth justice centres across NSW and ACT. The funds enabled digital hubs to be set up and now consistent ongoing 8 week mentoring programs run during the school term in Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Grafton and Canberra.

The digital hubs are delivered by the mentors in Sydney once per week for an hour into four different centres.

The program consists of 40 min of physical exercise and 20 min of going over the Confit workbook which gets mailed out to the centres before the program semester.

Beneficiary story: “99% of the participants at Orana youth justice centre (Dubbo) and Acmena youth justice centre (Grafton) are indigenous. Due to the geographical location they are neglected on many programs and have a sense of isolation from community. 98% of participants said they they felt a sense of belonging and significant improvement in their physical and mental wellbeing.

Participant J said "I found a new motivation to get back into footy and join my old footy club again"
