Forever Projects give hope, dignity and empowerment to Tanzanian women.

According to the World Health Organisation, 20 women die in childbirth each day in Tanzania. Many others are too sick to breastfeed their babies but can’t afford to buy formula milk, which is equivalent to one week's wage in Tanzania. Forever Projects works closely with these families, who are at risk of being unable to care for their children, by providing formula milk and housing support as well as education in hygiene, caregiving and tailored business training.

2019 Pitch

Funds raised: $34,250

20 women die in childbirth every day in Tanzania, with many others being too sick to produce breast milk for their babies. In response to this Forever Projects supports these families dealing with malnutrition, with formula milk and works with these family’s to establish small businesses so that they can support themselves. At TFN Live Sydney, Mark was pitching for funding to run this program across 3 locations in Tanzania.

The impact…

Tanzania boasts one of the most stunning landscapes in Africa, however it is also a country experiencing disadvantage and crisis with 20 women dying daily in childbirth. This has also created millions of children who are orphaned in a country that can’t provide much - if any - government support. When a mother dies in childbirth, she leaves behind a baby without a lactating mother and properly nourishing a baby can be difficult for families that are experiencing poverty and have no access to a pathway out.

Forever Projects work in local communities in Tanzania to change this reality for families, by providing vocational pathways and formula to families without a mother. As a result, the families are able to support themselves moving forward and create an economic trickle-down in their local communities. With support from TFN funding, Forever projects were able to support 12 families and expand their programs to another city - Tanga - to pilot with another 2 families. Below is a story from one such beneficiary.

“Today in Tanzania, Restituta is an independent grandmother providing for her family thanks to you. When we first met, her daughter had suddenly passed away in childbirth, leaving a newborn baby named Esther without a source of support. For a grandmother living on 18 cents a day, there was no way she could afford the nutrition Esther needed. Thanks to the funding from the TFN community, people like Restituta are able to get the empowerment they need from our local partners. A year later, her life has transformed—Restituta started a business selling dried fish and already increased her income by 12 times! With the income she can feed her family a great diet three times a day, she can always afford medicine, knows more about keeping this family healthy, and has a better quality of life. The best part? The family is together, in their community, able to thrive, forever.” - Mark Dombkins, Strategic Director
