First Step
First Step is a mental health, addiction and legal services hub based in St Kilda, Melbourne.
Unique to the First Step model is the way in which it combines the expertise of GPs, mental health nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, criminal and family violence lawyers, case co-ordinators and peer workers to achieve the best outcome for each individual it supports.

CEO Patrick Lawrence pitched at TFN Virtual Live for funding to hire an in-house coordinator to help its most vulnerable clients achieve sustained whole-of-life improvements.
The Impact
Thanks to more funding than they were ever anticipating, First Step was able to extend the care coordination role to two days. This resulted in the support of approximately 55 adults at one time over the last twelve months. The Care Coordinator was able to support and organise help from multiple clinicians and other staff at First Step (eg. GPs, counsellors, mental health workers) for all of those adults, offering a more holistic and stress free service.
